Blessing of the St. Thomas More Chapel
and
Anointing of the Altar

Blessing and Sprinkling of Water
Bishop D’Arcy blesses water with which he will sprinkle the assembly as a sign of repentance and a reminder of their baptism, and to purify the walls of the chapel.

Prayer of Dedication
Bishop D’Arcy says a prayer of dedication for the altar.

Anointing of the Altar
Bishop D’Arcy pours chrism on the middle of the altar and on each of its four corners.

Incensation of the Altar
After the rite of anointing, a brazier is placed on the altar for burning incense. Bishop D’Arcy places incense into the brazier as well as into the censer. He incenses the altar.

Lighting of the Altar

Fr. Richard Warner, C.S.C., Fr. John Coughlin, O.F.M., and Fr. Peter Rocca, C.S.C.
wipe the table of the altar with cloths.

The candles are lit by Fr. Peter Rocca, C.S.C.
