Selected to Serve American Cancer Society

Bernard Jones, an attorney with the law firm of McAfee & Taft in Oklahoma City, has been selected to serve on the American Cancer Society Government Relations Committee for the High Plains Division, a six-state area including Hawaii, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Texas.

As a member of the committee, Jones will assist in the decision-making process for advocacy issues that impact the American Cancer Society. These issues range from general health care issues to tobacco laws and breast and colon cancer screening.

For Jones, a lawyer with a keen interest in the legal issues surrounding governmental relations and lobbying, the decision to serve was an easy one. “My grandmother has beat breast cancer twice, so cancer prevention and policy is something that has affected me personally,” he said. “I’m proud to be part of a team that intends to do something about the suffering and death caused by cancer. It will be a great opportunity to serve and make a difference.”

Jones worked as a litigation associate with an Ohio law firm for two years before returning to Oklahoma and joining McAfee & Taft, the state’s largest law firm, in 2006. His practice currently encompasses the areas of general/commercial litigation, as well as labor and employment, family law and products liability litigation.

The American Cancer Society is dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by saving lives, diminishing suffering and preventing cancer through research, education, advocacy and service.
