OVERVIEW
The Career Services Office supports a multitude of programs and resources for those interested in pursuing public interest and public service careers. The CSO has available various public interest and public service resources both online (NDLS Only) and in our resource library to help students and alumni research positions in government, legal aid, the non-profit sector, and fellowship opportunities. In addition, each counselor is well-versed in public interest career information and eager to assist with counseling students and alumni. The Career Services Office also provides information regarding pro bono and other service opportunities, primarily by administering the Pro Bono Program.
SUMMER STIPEND PROGRAM
In addition, the Career Services Office administers the Summer Stipend Program which provides students with stipends for unfunded public interest law positions. These funds can be matched with Federal Work Study monies on a student and eligibility basis. Nearly 90 students participated in Summer 2008 at organizations around the world. Some students also accepted positions without the matching Federal Work Study funds, generally for positions located outside the United States. To find out more about our students’ varied experiences in Summer 2008, please see our publication Law Students Making a Difference. Information and application materials for Summer 2009 will be available in November 2008.
- The DOJ has opportunities for 1000 summer volunteers interns. Deadlines for the most popular organizations close as early as January 2009. To find out more, view the slides.
