ON-CAMPUS INTERVIEWING (OCI)
Though the main on-campus interviewing season occurs in the fall, the following rules apply to any interviews scheduled to occur here at Notre Dame regardless of the time of year.
If you are the First Interview of the Day
If you are the first interview of the day, YOU are responsible for showing the interviewer to the interview room. Report to the CSO in room 135 to meet the interviewer 15 MINUTES BEFORE the time of your interview. Make sure you know where the interview room is before you arrive. You should also point out to the interviewer where the bathrooms are. If your interview is in Flanner, it will be on the first floor in the interview suite. Flanner is the tower directly east of the North Dining Hall. Campus maps are available in the CSO. If your interview is in McKenna (CCE) rooms may be located on the first or second floors. Room
numbers are marked by the doors.
To Cancel an Interview
This MUST be done more than 48 hours BEFORE the interview. The master interview schedule will be in a binder in the CSO. A member of the CSO staff MUST initial your cancellation. If you have an emergency and must cancel less than 48 hours before the interview, talk with Trish, Carla, Julie, Teresa or Alisa and submit a copy of your letter of apology to the CSO.
Late Cancellations
Late interview cancellations create problems for all parties concerned. Employers miss the chance to fill a slot with another student and several late cancellations can cause an employer’s total interview number to drop below the level which makes a trip to campus worthwhile. Your colleagues lose valuable opportunities to meet with employers, and the Career Services Office looks inept and foolish when it presents to an employer upon arrival a schedule vastly different from that which was sent the week before. In addition, the students whose interview appointments follow a no-show may find the employer irritable and upset.
A Cancellation is considered late if not made 48 hours before the scheduled time. A student can alleviate the difficulties cancellations cause by helping the Career Services Office to locate people on the waiting-list (if one exists). Accepting an interview time entails a commitment. An interview canceled less than 24 hours prior to the scheduled time will be seen a no-show.
If You Are On the Waitlist
Interviewers will receive your resume a week in advance of the interview date and will know that you are on the waitlist.
The master interview schedule is in a binder in the CSO. Check the schedule frequently. If there is a cancellation and you are waitlisted, you may write yourself into that time-slot. A CSO staff member MUST initial your name when you claim a time slot. If you are not able to get on the official schedule, you may contact the employer before the interview and try to arrange to meet the interviewer for a meal or during a break while they are on campus. You may also drop by the interview room on the day of the interview and speak to the interviewer during a break or at lunch. Many interviewers have expressed that they find the initiative impressive when students do this.
Resume Fraud/Misrepresentation
Placing false or even misleading information on a resume may constitute resume fraud.
You should be careful to avoid any mistakes on your resume which might be construed as fraud. Check your grade point average for accuracy with the registrar before printing your resume. The Career Services Office will immediately report to the Dean’s Office any student suspected of resume fraud. This is considered a violation of the honor code and will be addressedaccordingly.
The registrar at Notre Dame does not rank students within each class; therefore, no ranking notation should appear on a Notre Dame law student’s resume. Even estimations are unacceptable, as you do not have information enough to make an adequate approximation. If asked, you should provide the interviewer with the class mean GPA and the dean’s list grade cutoff as guideposts for assessing your placement in the class.
