Interviewing Tips & Strategies
Interviewing Tips & Strategies
In an interview, applicants and employers exchange information in a process that is designed to help each side determine if the other fits their needs. Employers are trying to ascertain whether the candidate measures up to his/her credentials and, sometimes more importantly, whether the candidate will be a good fit within the work environment. Applicants are trying to determine whether the employer (and the work) truly interests them and whether they can thrive and be comfortable in the position. Preparation and practice are critical to effective interviewing. Many law students have never interviewed for a professional position while others may have experienced interviewing in other professional fields. As such, it is imperative that law students hone their interview skills through thorough preparation and frequent practice.

- Mock Interviews: Participating in a mock interview is one of the best ways to prepare for an actual job interview. The experience helps students learn what is expected in a real interview situation by providing an opportunity to practice answering potential interview questions and receive constructive feedback on all aspects of the process. Contact your career counselor to schedule a mock interview with the CDO or with participating alumni.
