HEADLINE NEWS New Jersey Governor Chris Christie to Discuss Legal Issues in Education New Jersey Governor Chris Christie will deliver the keynote address during a day-long symposium titled "Educational Innovation and the Law" to be held at 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 18 (Friday) in the Patrick F. McCartan Courtroom at the Notre Dame Law School. The symposium is free and open to the public. The event is part of the 2011-12 Notre Dame Forum, "Reimagining School: To Nurture the Soul of a Nation," a year-long discussion of the profound and challenges questions that shape the national debate about K-12 education. Indiana Supreme Court Oral Arguments The Indiana Supreme Court held Oral Arguments in the McCartan Courtoom on Monday, November 14th. Federal Circuit Judge Speaks on Marbury V. Madison The Hon. William H. Pryor Jr., of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, delivered remarks about “The Unbearable Rightness of Marbury v. Football Friday Open Houses The Alumni Center hosts Law School Football Friday Open Houses on all home football Fridays. ND alum Regis Philbin, ‘53, singled out the NDLS facilities and the Patrick F. Family Pre-game Reception – October 29, 2011 Notre Dame Law School graduates and Order of St. Thomas More members joined together at an NDLS Family Pre-game Reception on October 29th. Participants watched the band “March Under the Arch” and enjoyed game day refreshments. NDLS Alumni at the ND versus Maryland Game NDLS alumni and friends gathered in Washington D.C. on November 11, 2011 in celebration of the Notre Dame versus Maryland game. More Highlights John Michael, ’98 J.D., has been selected as the Cleveland Cavaliers new radio play-by-play announcer. Prior to a broadcasting career, John practiced law as a trial attorney. David P. Pusateri, ’84 J.D., a partner at McGuire Woods LLP in Pittsburgh, has been appointed deputy managing partner overseeing the firm’s corporate practice. Read more Alumni Class Notes.
Faculty Notes Professor O. Carter Snead Appointed Director of the University’s Center for Ethics and Culture Professor O. Carter Snead, professor of law at the University of Notre Dame, has been appointed the W.P. and H.B. White Director of the University’s Center for Ethics and Culture (CEC) by John McGreevy, I.A. O’Shaughnessy Dean of the College of Arts and Letters. Professor Mary Ellen O’Connell Speaks on “Peace as a Global Public Good.” Professor Mary Ellen O’Connell spoke on "Peace as a Global Public Good" at a global public goods symposium in San Domenico di Fiesole, Italy on October 24. The symposium, “Public Goods and the Plurality of Legal Orders,” is organized by the European Society of International Law, the American Society of International Law, the European Journal of International Law, and the HiiL Project on Private Transnational Regulatory Regimes. Professor Mayer Quoted in National Catholic Register Professor Mayer quoted in National Catholic Register in an article entitled, What Will Be the Outcome of Catholic Answers vs. IRS?
