Dates & Deadlines

The dates below are intended to provide a general overview of the timing of the financial aid and loan cycle. Many of these dates are estimates and will vary from year to year. Please only use this as a general guide; admitted students should consult the Admissions Office for more information.

January

Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA may be completed online at studentaid.gov/fafsa and is required for all federal loans, as well as need-based NDLS scholarship consideration. Notre Dame’s Federal School Code is 001840.

Important note: Graduate and professional students are considered independent students for FAFSA purposes, so when you fill out your FAFSA form to apply for law school aid, you won't need to provide parent information.

February

Students who applied and were admitted begin receiving their law school scholarship notifications. Scholarship notifications will be sent with admissions decisions on a rolling basis. All admitted students are automatically considered for merit scholarships. Students who submit the FAFSA to Notre Dame before January 31 will also be considered for need-based scholarships.

February 28

Priority deadline for submitting the FAFSA to receive priority processing consideration for financial assistance from the University Office of Financial Aid.

Mid-March

Date by which the Office of Financial Aid begins to mail Loan Award Notification letters to candidates who submitted the FAFSA by the February 28 suggested deadline.

May 15

Suggested date for completing the Federal Direct Loan Master Promissory Note (MPN) and, if needed, any other educational loans.

July 13

Date the Office of Student Accounts generates a student’s first billing statement with a due date of mid-August.
