On How NDLS Has Influenced Me:
“Notre Dame emphasized from the first day (starting with the first speech by then Dean Tom Shaffer) that each of us had a duty, whatever course our careers might take, to look beyond ourselves and our own personal goals to the ‘greater good’. My appreciation of that emphasis matured only as my experience as a lawyer grew. We are in a profession that, regardless of the area or pressures of our practices, offers the potential for very significant impact on the conduct of society. I see it all the time in daily practice, and I am happy that NDLS continues to remind and urge students to look beyond themselves.”
On Professional Opportunities:
“Notre Dame’s national and international network inevitably brings contacts that can lead to professional opportunities. The Notre Dame directory is generally my first source for referrals. The common bond, assurance of competence, and that “special something” that Notre Dame leaves with each graduate makes it easy and comfortable to be on both ends of professional referral and enrichment.”
On the General Perception of an NDLS Lawyer:
“Notre Dame Law School students and graduates stand out. Look at the make-up of the Bar in any major metropolitan area and one finds NDLS graduates in positions of law firm, civic, and professional association leadership. Look at lawyers committed to public service and you will find Notre Dame lawyers in the forefront. Notre Dame lawyers found in all endeavors are outstanding and people know it. That’s why visibility is high, and success stories abound.”
