How NDLS has Shaped My Desire to Positively Affect Other’s Lives Through Legal Practice:
“My experiences working in the Legal Aid Civil and Immigration Clinics for three semesters while a student at Notre Dame were instrumental in my commitment to pursue a career in public interest law. The chance to represent indigent clients under the supervision and mentorship of the attorneys in the Clinic allowed me to begin practicing law with a good understanding of the unique challenges and rewards inherent in poverty law. Additionally, through the examples set by my supervising attorneys and fellow students, I witnessed the Gospel in action as we attempted to use the law as a form of ministry, and were in turn ministered to by our poor and immigrant clients.”
How NDLS Has Enhanced My Professional Career:
“The Notre Dame alumni community has been extremely supportive, and has made it possible for me to pursue a career in public interest law. My first summer, I was fortunate to work at the Hamilton County Public Defenders Office with the support of the Cincinnati Alumni Club, and my second summer I was able to work at Community Legal Services in Phoenix, Arizona with help from the Phoenix Alumni Club. I also had several individual alumni who generously assisted me with finding accommodations for the summer – at times even hosting me in their own homes! Finally, as a participant in the Notre Dame LRAP (Loan Repayment Assistance Program), I have most recently benefited from the generosity of NDLS alumni who have donated their time and money to assist graduates in public service work with their student loan repayment.”
