Transfer

Admission into Notre Dame Law School as a transfer student is selective and is based upon your prelaw qualifications and academic record at the law school from which transfer is requested. Notre Dame will accept a maximum of 30 semester hours of credit earned at another law school.

To be eligible for consideration for admission as a transfer student, you must have completed one year of study at a school that is both approved by the American Bar Association and a member of the Association of American Law Schools. As a transfer applicant, you are not required to subscribe to the Law School Data Assembly Service (LSDAS). However, you must submit the following supporting documentation:

• an official transcript from the institution that granted the baccalaureate degree
• an official transcript reflecting all first-year law courses and grades
• a brief statement indicating the reason(s) for wanting to transfer
• two letters of recommendation, one of which is from a law professor who has taught you in class
• a photocopy of the LSDAS Report from your current law school
• a dean’s letter certifying good standing and class rank
• a non-refundable application fee of $60

Transfer applicants should have a completed application on file with the Admissions Office no later than July 1 (including the above items).

The transfer application will be available on April 1.

Law Journal Write-on Competition: Transfer applicants are eligible to participate in the Notre Dame law journals write-on competition. If you wish to participate in this competition, you should request an information packet from the Director of Student Services, Peter Horvath no later than June 1. It is important to note that admission decisions and selection decisions for a law journal are made independently and at different times during the summer.
