J.D. Study in London
A London Year or Semester
All courses and instruction conform to the standards of the Association of American Law Schools and the American Bar Association. Each year about 30 second-year students from Notre Dame who have successfully completed all their first-year courses elect to study in England taking course and seminar work under American and English teachers. A one-semester option is also available to second-year students and a fall semester is available to third-year students.
The Notre Dame London Law Center is located at 1 Suffolk Street on the northwest corner of Trafalgar Square in central London.
Accommodations will be available to rent in the Notre Dame-owned Royal Waterloo building in the heart of London.
A London Summer
The Summer Law Program is an integral part of Notre Dame Law School and is fully accredited.
We anticipate offering seven courses for a total of 14 hours of academic credit in the summer of 2012. You may enroll in courses up to a maximum of six hours of credit. We allow auditing courses with the permission of the particular faculty member and with the written approval of the director. Although other law schools have regularly approved transfer of credits, if you are attending another law school you should ask your school about credit prior to registering for the summer in London.
“As director of the Notre Dame London Law Program, I have the opportunity to help students add a unique element to their American legal education. Students who come to London do so because they appreciate the increasingly global aspects of practicing law in the United States. No longer is international law of interest only to multinational corporations that typically have a need for international expertise. Any practitioner now may need to be conscious of how easily a problem in domestic relations, intellectual property, or even crime can involve an international dimension. A failure to be conscious of this element may in the future prove to be not just undesirable, but reflect a flaw in a legal professional’s training.”
—Geoffrey Bennett, Director of the Notre Dame London Law Centre
